Sgt. Stubby: An American Hero
During the first World War, a homeless dog, Stubby, meets an American soldier, who inspires his life, by giving him a name, house, and befriends him, so Stubby, accompanies him during the war, and did a dangerous missions, for the sake of America, the thing that makes him worth the title of the most courageous dog in America.

I'm glad to report that I not only saw the tale of a soldier and his loyal pooch through to the end; at one point, I used a shirt cuff to blot away the wet eyes.
