Time Bandits
It's a story that looks very strange, as it tells the young Kevin (Craig Warnock) who is going through a strange situation when six dwarves emerge from his wardrobe one night. Now, Kevin tries to join the dwarfs squad as they jump from one age to another in order to embark on a new and dangerous mission by searching for treasure to steal.

This is an enterprising project in free-form cinema; it's just not very entertaining.

A cheerfully irreverent lark -- part fairy tale, part science fiction and part comedy.

When you can count the laughs in a comedy on the fingers of one hand, it isn't so funny.

Gilliam opts for an acerbic and often nasty tone that risks offending the very audience at which it purported to be aimed.

Gilliam fills the screen with bizarre images, and directs with a breathless ingenuity.

Time Bandits is one of Gilliam's more chaotic films, which is really saying something, but his six time-bandits fill the screen with fractious energy.

Perhaps the greatest characteristic attributable to Time Bandits is its sense of invention. The movie does so many things, all of them well.

As an adventure tale to enjoy with your kids, you could do much worse than Time Bandits - you just can't expect the depth of Gilliam's more adult works.

Amazingly well-produced. The historic locations are jammed with character and detail. This is the only live-action movie I've seen that literally looks like pages out of Heavy Metal magazine.

Ex-Python Gilliam is one of the great conjurers of cinema, and this film is proof of his ample and unpredictable talent.

It's a strange and weird and wonderful mix of boy's own adventure, Python-esque humor, and grim irony, all wrapped in tall tales, ancient myths, and historical figures.
June 05, 2007
The film is resolutely, passionately antiadult, yet much of the humor has an adult sophistication and edge to it; this is one kids' movie that doesn't condescend.
