It feels very good watching so unsympathetic a character (the sort who berates her mom for failing to give her an A-plus on her homeschool quiz) get her comeuppances - until, of course, it suddenly doesn't.

[Colleen] Ballinger's series is gross, weird, and cringe inducing, but damn it's so funny.
October 12, 2016
Ballinger's efforts are very have your cake and eat it too, and fairly potent in short bursts. Put Miranda in her own half-hour eight-episode Netflix series, however, and the lampoon loses its edge.
October 21, 2016
Ballinger's transition from Youtube clips to a full-length series is painful at best.

While the discord is earned, the tonal shifts don't always jibe. It's not enough of a deviation to throw Haters Back Off! off the rails, though, so there's no need to heed the warning when partaking of this new comedy.

It is great, once you've attuned yourself to its quirks.
October 12, 2016
Haters Back Off! runs on a fairly thin concept and in a claustrophobic world.

I took the show's title as permission to stop watching after one episode.

By moving the scope of her comedy and worldview, Ballinger gets at something that is not only a cultural critique but often hits on the fragility of egos and everyone's need for acceptance.

What we get... is just a painfully unwatchable tirade of actors and actresses who know they can do a lot better than this.
