Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Wolf's latest spinoff for NBC, is a reach, and if you watch only one or two episodes, you'll probably conclude that Wolf has finally exceeded his grasp.

Some of the winning recipe -- straightforward story lines, lots of procedure -- is in place. But the lackluster pilot episode, about a Park Avenue lawyer who kills a string of mistresses, was dramatically threadbare. Maybe two's the limit.

I couldn't put it in the bad category, because I couldn't come up with many valid complaints... It helps to have a good cast, including Vincent D'Onofrio, Kathryn Erbe, and Courtney B. Vance.
